| THE BOOKWORM
I suppose we all know what the term “bookworm” means. It refers to someone who loves to read and spends much time pouring over books. Bookworms have been known to slither into bookstores and spend hours checking out the new offerings on the shelves housing their favorite types of reading material. Of course, in all bookstores the sections are numerous and carefully labeled to identify mystery, adventure, travel, famous people and much more. These lovers of books often become hypnotized by the voices between the covers and bindings and remain curled up on the floor, between the stacks, behind the “on sale, 50% off, two-for-one” displays until someone announces closing time. A favorite place for many members of this adventurous race of human beings is the Used Book Store. To identify a book as “used” is to pay it the greatest honor. “Used” is a term of respect identifying the book as having attracted the attention of the public, a book having value and finding favor with the book-loving readers. While automobiles shy away from any reference to age and service, preferring to be defined as pre-owned for purpose of resale, books revel in reference to their age and the hours spent pleasing their public. The “used book store” is a temple of much sought after tomes. Some are out of print. Some are so rare that even with brown and dog-eared pages they are bought and treasured. I have a brother who has loved books since he was a child. Although we grew up in different families we bother had a love for bookstores, books and wonderful magazines like National Geographic. We did not travel much but publications like the Geographic took us to fascinating places and introduced us to new people, languages and customs. We both read and collected books. We were drawn together by a mutual kindred spirit and hours of wandering through bookstores, exchanging books and bookselling publications. Some of my best gifts were books Bobby gave me. I treasure them. He also introduced me to one of the greatest mystery writers of all time. We have read all her books and have great times talking about the stories. The Bookworm section on our site is for such adventures. It is for all kinds if books. You will find that some of the books will have topics of interest to those who want to learn more about human differences. The people in many of these books will be those who have added something special to the world while they were here. Then there will adventure and fun topics to enjoy. Drop by. Bring some of your favorite munchies. Curl up and read a brief summary or two. Choose a title you like and head for the bookstore or library. Your may find a topic that excites or an author who will become a favorite. Make some suggestions of your own. Curl up and enjoy! ![]() ![]() |
